Trauma of Communism

The book “The Trauma of Communism” offers accounts of difficult decades of history by scholars from the USA, Czech Republic, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine.

The publication is the result of many years of cooperation between Ukrainian Catholic University, the University of Notre Dame, and five universities of Central and Eastern Europe as part of the Catholic University Partnership. The Catholic University Partnership (CUP) was founded in 2003 to support universities in post-communist countries in their efforts to encourage academic excellence, inspired by experience and the strength of faith. Inspired by the research project Faith and Freedom, the CUP conference in 2021, and re-thought in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the collection “The Trauma of Communism” presents stories and personal accounts of the traumatic decades of the communist regime which the authors from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine lived through. Published by the UCU Press, the collection was presented on 6 December during an international panel and discussion.
