Day Theme
Dignity, ‘Digital-ity’, Democracy
Venue: Sheptytsky Center, Stryiska str., 29а, Lviv
In the past, technologies have functioned as helpful tools at the service of human beings who have controlled these technologies to promote culture and the progress of civilization, but due to the novel nature and power of ‘digital-ity’, this relationship is in danger of being reversed. Needless to say, this threatens every genuine democracy and can even lead to unjust wars. There is a growing need to reflect upon a digital world’s impact on the public and political domains and to develop an appropriate culture and policies to sustain our social development and to secure democracies.
Among others, the following issues will be addressed and reflected upon throughout the day:
• | Digital Disinformation: Will Technology Kill or Reinvent Democracy? |
• | Democracy, Markets, and Social Media Business Models |
• | Social Teaching of the Church and the Power of the Digital |
• | Surveillance Giants, Data Harvesting and Human Rights |
• | Access, Speed, Connectivity: Is There a “Dignity” Cost? |
• | Education Reconsidered: Dignity-Sensitive and Digitally-Savvy? |
